These steps are required to get your XPS Bootloader unlocked and then to get root on it.

Prior to unlocking your Sony XPS, please be wise and careful as following this guide will wipe the /data partition of your phone. It means you will loose all your stored data and settings.
1- Type *#06# in phone dialer to find IMEI numbers out (write it down)
2- Download needed Fastboot and Drivers package (link)
3- Power down your phone, connect it to USB cable
4- Keeping the Volume Up button pressed, connect the USB cable to PC
5- Windows will start driver installation
6- Extract the package file above
7- Point the driver install to that location (usb_driver) folder
8- Once drivers are installed, disconnect your phone and power it ON.
Confirm if your Xperia S Bootloader is Unlock-able
1- Open the dialler in your phone and type *#*#7378423#*#*
2- Tap on Service info >> Configuration >> Rooting Status
3- If Bootloader unlock allowed says “Yes”, it means you’re safe.
17 Steps To Unlock XPS Bootloader
1- Go to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
2- Scroll down the page and click “Start Unlocking the Bootloader”
3- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Continue”
4- Confirm it by clicking “yes i am sure”
5- Accept what you need to accept
6- You’ll then see “Create Unlock request” page
7- Enter your phone IMEI, name and email address
8- Your unique unlock key will be displayed on-screen
9- Write it down or copy it to Notepad and save it
10- Extract fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.rar and open fastboot folder
11- Hold SHIFT key and right click on the background of the folder
12- Click on “Open command window here”
13- Turn your Sony XPS off, hold Volume UP button, connect it to PC via USB cable
14- In command prompt window type this:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
15- If your phone is correctly connected, the command returns value 0.5
16- Then type this command:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY
replace the “KEY” with your own unique unlock key
17- Once you hit enter and the command’s executed, your Sony Xperia S should now has unlocked bootloader.
