Native Ubuntu Ported to Asus Transformer – It is now possible to run other than mobile OS inside a Tablet PC device. Lastly we’ve mentioned how Ubuntu ported to Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This time another awesome work unveiled by a member of XDA “Jhinta” which has managed to port Linux Ubuntu to Asus Transformer.

However the work is not completely perfect but at least in almost perfect as it is closer and closer to a perfect port. How this job done?
Step 1. Download needed rootfs file
Step 2. Place the rootfs file on a mircosd in /ubuntu/rootfs.ext2
Step 3. Download Asus Transformer Ubuntu Rootfs bootloader [link]
Step 4. Boot with that file and change login to autologin
Step 5. Then install netbook-launcher-efl and add it to autolaunch as this will give you ubuntu-2D
Step 6. If you have build a rootfs make sure you have a symbolic link in root called init to your own init: /init -> /sbin/init
However you should proceed with caution. Don’t hesitate to contact the author at XDA Thread here if you found any questions in mind regarding this Ubuntu ported to Asus Transformer which usually runs Android Honeycomb.

Hey Fariezkun,
Very interesting, Just recently, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer was released, and experts believe that this might outclass the popular iPad 2 in a lot of ways. The iPad 2 is indeed a very sophisticated tablet PC which is powered by Apple’s iOS 4.3 system, while the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is a versatile tablet operated with Google’s new Android Honeycomb 3.0 OS, which can also be smartly transformed into a laptop with a keyboard dock.
Nice One!
