DIY Update to Android 2.2 Froyo on Motorola Droid

The update process is basically easy and you have to install Android 2.2 (FRG01B) to update manually on your Motorola Droid. Steps to Update Motorola Droid to Android 2.2 Froyo without Root

1- Download Android 2.2 Update.zip file

2- Mount your MicroSD card and connect Droid to your computer via USB.

3- Select [USB connected] and then click [Mount].

4- Paste the update file directly to MicroSD card (must in the root directory)

5- Un-mount MicroSD card and from the notification panel select [Turn off USB storage] and select [Turn Off].

6- Turn Off your phone

7- Boot your phone in Recovery Mode

To do this, hold power button with holding [X] key on your phone keyboard. Wait for a triangle with exclamation point to appear, then release both buttons.

8- Hold the volume up button and then press the camera button.

9- A text menu will appear with four options. Use your D-pad to navigate [apply sdcard:update.zip] and push gold and center button to select it.

10- The update process will begin and will be completed after few minutes. You might get an error like this:

E:Can’t open /cache/recovery/command

11- The update will install fine, no need to worry.

12- Now reboot your Droid phone.

So your Motorola Droid now is on latest Android 2.2 Froyo OS. Simple huh?
