How To Automatically Update WordPress Install, Themes And Plugins

Automatic Updater

Did you know that old WordPress version installed can lead to a hacked or defaced blog? Well, then you need to do the upgrade each time new version of WordPress is released. But wait? Still got hacked? Just double check whether one of your plugins or themes is obsolete or outdated. Along with installing some other security plugins, making sure all your themes and plugins up to date is really necessary for your own safety. Another challenge is that, what if you owned so many self-hosted WordPress blogs spread along different web hosting services? It could be so painful to do the update process manually or one-by-one. You’ll need easier solution than that.

Few months ago, you’ll need an account in a service like WPManage.com. But today, there is another solution.

Meet “Automatic Updater”, a new WordPress plugin to update your core WordPress install, all your themes as well as installed plugins. The main benefit here is that updates get installed as soon as they are released, reducing the time between updates significantly.

But please keep in mind that the plugin only works if file permissions are set correctly so that files can be updated via the WordPress web interface / the plugin.

Also please be aware that not every new version of plugins you have is compatible with your current WordPress installation.

How To Update WordPress Core Install, Plugins and Themes Automatically

1- In your WordPress Admin, go to the Add New Plugins page
2- Search for: automatic updater
3- Automatic Updater should be the first result.
4- Click the Install link.
5- Activate the plugin and enjoy..

I would not recommend using the automatic update plugin on important sites, but if you have several autoblogging sites (WPRobot-powered), then this plugin is really really helpful.
