Install CWM Recovery on Sony Xperia Acro S: Made Easy

As one of awesome Android phone with middle level specs, Sony Xperia Acro S features a bunch of awesomeness including sleek design, intuitive UI, IP57 certified (dust and water resistant), LED-backlit LCD, 720 x 1280 pixels 4.3 inches touchscreen display, dualcore Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon processor, Adreno 220 and of course Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine.

As a newly debuted phone (released 2012, August), you may think that Xperia Acro S is a little bit hard to root but there is already a method you can follow to gain root on your phone even that is not a one-click solution.

Well at least finally you can root it so you can install custom recovery or custom Android ROM. Any way, here’s a nice method to install ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM) on Xperia Acro S safely.

But please do understand that you have to proceed with your own risks. We hold no responsibility of what may happen with your phone.

Flashing CWM On Xperia Acro S

1- Making a backup first is really recommended

2- Unlock your bootloader first. Go to this page to find help.

3- Download AcroS_Kernel_61A245.zip file [link]

4- Download fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.rar file [link]

5- Extract fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.rar file to C:\ drive.

You should find two folders named fastboot and usb_driver.

6- Extract AcroS_Kernel_61A245.zip file to the fastboot folder.

Your fastboot folder should now contain the following files:
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
fastboot.exe
kernel.sin
kernel-cwm.elf

7- Turn off your phone.

8- Connect the USB cable first to your PC

9- Then connect the microUSB end of the cable to your device while holding Volume Up.

10- Windows should now automatically install the necessary drivers

p.s: if not use the usb_driver folder to install the necessary them.

11- Open Command prompt window (CMD)

12- Type following command and hit enter:

cd c:\fastboot_with_Android_USB_file\fastboot
fastboot flash boot kernel-cwm.elf

13- Restart your phone

14- Tap on the Sony logo when booting and the blue LED comes on.

15- That’s it and you should now enter ClockWorkMod Recovery.
