Windows 8 as the latest operating system from Microsoft is equipped with a bunch of cool new features and bug fixes but still there is always new problems will be found. One of them is a problem when a user tries to restart/reboot and shut down Windows 8. Fortunately, there is basically an easy fix to avoid that issue but it will decrease your experience in using this OS. But so far it is the easiest solution at least until Microsoft released KB update.

The Symptoms

  • Windows 8 computers restart themselves as soon as the login screen appears.
  • Sometimes computer systems hang while rebooting or shutting down the system.
  • Windows took long time to shutdown
    • The Solution

Usually, this kind of problem is caused by Windows 8 new feature called “Hybrid Shutdown” which is a cool feature aimed to decrease total startup/boot time of Windows 8 by hibernating the kernel session.

Normally, Windows 8 will close it down. Hence this new feature reduces the overall Windows loading time because resuming from hibernated system session is simply faster than a full system initialization.

Personally, I prefer to Hibernate my Windows XP / 7 instead of really shutting it down.

So the solution is: to disable Windows 8 Hybrid Shutdown.
