Quick Tip: Booting Into Safe Mode In Windows 8

It’s just a matter of few weeks for Microsoft to release the final stable version of Windows 8 which currently reaches Consumer Preview already. But there are already thousands users downloaded and installed this OS on either their PC or Laptop. So if you are one of those users, you may also need to know this simple tip on how to activate and boot into Windows 8 Safe Mode state.

I’m sure there are many purposes and reasons of why you may need to enter Safe Mode in Windows 8. Whatever those reasons are, you’ll need to firstly enable “Safe Mode” settings before you can boot into. For that, simply follow these simplified steps:

1- On Windows 8 Desktop, point / move your mouse to your screen’s bottom left

2- The Charms bar will out.

3- Click on “Search” icon then type “cmd”

4- Right-click the Command Prompt icon then click “Run As Administrator”

5- In command prompt window, type following command then hit enter

bcdedit /enum /v

6- Look for this text: Windows Boot Loader

7- Then locate the section that has the description of “Windows 8″

8- Select and copy all the keys at “identifier” section including the “{ }”

9- You may close that window or simply re-open CMD window again

10- Now type following command:

bcdedit /copy youridentifierstring /d “Windows Developer Preview (Safe Mode)”

replace youridentifierstring with the one you copied in step 8, then hit enter

11- Type msconfig followed by hitting enter

12- In msconfig window click on the “Boot” tab

13- Now click/select the “select the new entry called Windows Developer/Consumer Preview (Safe Mode)”

14- Do not forget to tick “Safe Boot” under the Boot Options section

15- Also tick the “Make All Boot Settings Permanent” option

16- Once done, click [Ok] button followed by [Yes]

That’s all. Once Safe Mode boot enabled, you’ll be presented with two options during booting: Normal or Safe Mode.
