Few days ago iPhone Dev Team has just released newer updated version of RedSn0w bringing minor bug fixes, easier way to downgrade and alternative method to put your iPhone into DFU mode even its home button is broken. Curious?
Jailbroken devices will not need to re-run the jailbreak using this RedSn0w v0.9.14b2. But for iPhone 3G and 3Gs users who want to downgrade its baseband for ultraSn0w unlock (06.15.00 baseband), downloading and using this new build is really necessary.
But it’s still worth noting that iPhone 3Gs manufactured in early 2011 won’t be able to use this.
Along with that improved ability, this beta 2 of RedSn0w 0.9.14 also brings a new but really important feature allowing iDevices with broken home button to enter DFU mode.
To do that, simply launch RedSn0w up.
Now on Redsn0w click the “Extras” button >> then “Even More” >> click “DFU IPSW” button.
You’ll see a message informing you what this feature is. Simply click the “OK” button.
DFU-Mode IPSW is a new feature to create an IPSW that will cause the device to enter DFU Mode at the end of an otherwise normal iTunes restore.
Now locate the .ipsw file of Apple’s latest iOS version (iOS 5.1.1 is currently signed with Apple)
You can grab iOS 5.1.1 .IPSW file from direct link here.
Now wait a few minutes for RedSn0w to cook can build custom iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file with ENTER_DFU prefix which is located at the same location as the original firmware.
Now you can use that newly created custom ipsw for normal iTunes Restore procedure. Simply connect your iDevice to a PC or Mac then launch iTunes up. Now hold Option key on Mac or Shift key on Windows followed by clicking “Restore” button on iTunes.
Once the restore process is complete. Your iDevice should now in “DFU Mode” state which you can then proceed to jailbreaking using RedSn0w. Simply run RedSn0w again then hit the “Jailbreak” button.
That’s it. This feature is surely useful for iDevices with broken home button or those who want to avoid using home button frequently.

Hi, I’ve got a iphone 3g with a broken power button. I’ve successfully put it into dfu and have jailbroken it.
The process of downgrading the baseband is simple but no one has explained how to do this with a broken power button. Am I required to use the dfu .ipw file I made with redsnow? Then proceed with the steps? Any help would be appreciated.
