A quite impressive work has been achieved by one of XDA members explaining how to root the “not yet been released” Nexus 7 tablet PC running Google’s latest mobile OS Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. You may believe or believe it not but one you have the tablet on hands, you can try these steps to root, unlock bootloader then install custom recovery on it (in this case is flashing CWM).

The “How To” Steps
1- Download then install appropriate Android SDK
2- On your tablet go to Settings > Developer Options > enable USB Debugging
3- Now plug your device into computer using its USB cable
4- On your PC, launch command prompt / CMD window
5- Go to fastboot folder which will be inside the location where Android SDK is installed (you should be familiar with command prompt)
6- Now type following command in fastboot:
fastboot oem unlock
7- Wait for it to execute. Once done also enter this one
fastboot reboot
8- Now download this recovery image and place it inside fastboot folder as well.
9- Now type this command
fastboot flash recovery CWM-grouper-recovery.img
10- Now type following command once that one done
fastboot reboot
11- Still in terminal, type following commands
mount system
adb shell
cd /system
mv recovery-from-boot.p recovery-from-boot.bak
12- Now download SuperSu file from here.
13- Now transfer that file into your tablet in /sdcard directory
14- Now turn off your Nexus 7
15- Press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons
16- You should now enter ClockWorkMod Recovery
17- On CWM navigate to install zip from sdcard >> choose zip from sdcard
18- Now locate the JB-SuperSU.zip file downloaded in step 12
19- Now reboot once done flashing
20- Upon rebooting, your Nexus 7 should now be rooted.
That’s all. Butt do remember that rooting will void your device’s warranty and we hold no responsibility of what may and may not happen. So you are on your own but happy rooting!!

One other thing to watch, some early adopters have reported that rooting their devices cut them off from the official Play store. Word in the bloggersphere is that they are relaxing this restriction but it is something else to be aware of if rooting your Nexus.
