It’s nice to hear that root and stock firmware of Samsung’s newest handset have been leaked. But as what many Android users with root access gained, the next “must do” step is to installing custom recovery. Where, it’s the place where you can do many advanced tasks like creating and restoring Nandroid backups, flashing ROM and so on. One of best custom recovery available out there is ClockWorkMod Recovery aka CWM.
So, if you are lucky person who already have Galaxy SIII on hands and want to enjoy some of CWM’s goodness on your device, simply read following steps:
Extract all downloaded file above in your Desktop for easy access. For extracting CWM v1.2 .zip file, make sure you get a .tar file.
Turn off and reboot your SGS3 into “Download Mode” by pressing and holding down Volume Down + Home + Power buttons. And when you see an exclamation alert, simply press the Volume UP button.
Now plug your SGS3 into your computer using its USB data cable.
Now launch Odin up by double-clicking Odin3 v1.85.exe file.
On Odin, click on the PDA tab then select the recovery file with .tar extension you’ve extracted before.
Please leave everything else on Odin intact.
Take a deep breathe and click on the “Start” button.
Sit tight and wait for Odin to install CWM on your SGS3.
Once done, your phone will reboot.
That’s it. You are now safe to unplug your phone from your computer. See? Installing CWM is pretty easy (done in 8 steps). However, you should not face any problems but if you do, refer to this XDA thread for more queries.
