Using RedSn0w To Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 (Tethered on iPhone, iPad, iPod) – So Apple has just pushed out iOS 5.1.1 for public bringing several important bug fixes as well as performance enhancement. But as always, there is no magic spell in the world to stop jailbreak. iPhone Dev Team has released newer version of RedSn0w to bring almost all iOS devices running 5.1.1 jailbroken tethered.
All users of iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G should now be happy that all security patches included within the new firmware still not being capable to patch the tethered jailbreak exploit. As always, it requires a lower firmware version. And if you want to do so, simply read following steps to put your iDevice jailbroken.
How To
1- a. Download RedSn0w v0.9.10B8B:
Windows: redsn0w_win_0.9.10b8b.zip
Mac OS X: redsn0w_mac_0.9.10b8b.zip
b. Once downloaded, extract the .zip file using Winzip, Winrar or 7zip
c. Always make sure you backup your iPhone first.
2- Download iOS 5.1 .ipsw file (not iOS 5.1.1)
3- Now launch RedSn0w up
4- Click on “Extras” >> choose the “Select IPSW” button
5- Now locate the iOS 5.1 .ipsw file
6- Now click on “Jailbreak” to start the process (But make sure you have Cydia ticked for install)
7- Read and follow on-screen instruction to put your device into DFU mode
8- Sit tight and wait for Redsn0w to do its job.
Don’t get panic if you seen some texts scrolling down on your iPhone’s screen
9- Your iDevice will then reboot. Once rebooted, you’ll see a Cydia icon there which indicates that the jailbreak is successful.
10- Basically that’s it. But you’ll need to do a tethered boot each time your device turned off.

Booting your jailbroken iPhone into tethered mode is basically easy and still the same. Simply launch Redsn0w >> click on “Extras” >> then click on “Just Boot”.
